So this morning I was a bit concerned when I heard about the quake in Venezuela. If you're not geographically challenged then you should know that St Vincent and the Grenadines, where I'm currently based, is between Haiti and Venezuela.
Haiti and Venezuela share the same seismic fault line! That got me all flustered because I don't want to die! Not now at least. I went online to look up the path of the fault line in Central America and thank GOD SVG is not on any seismic plates!! Phewww!!
Maybe we'll have a tsunami. That's a fear that grips me every time I sit on the balcony and stare at the ocean which is almost half a mile away. Last year a Norwegian visited the island to warn the locals about tsunamis in the Caribbean. He said that God sent him here to give us fair warning on the impending calamity that'd befall upon the islands soon. I didn't really pay attention to his ramblings. Vincentians scorned his so-called predictions and deported him.
Yesterday afternoon, I was trying to coax hubby into packing a bag with bare essentials just in case something happens. You never know.
Anyway here's a Youtube video of David Rudder singing a song called Haiti. David Rudder is a Trinidadian singer who, according to Wikipedia, "released his best album to date, Haiti, which included the title track, a tribute to the glory and suffering of Haiti." Read more on the singer here.
May God give strength to the Haitians and if you can help in any way please do so. There are so many alternatives to donate. Just as I'm writing this, Obama, Clinton and Bush are giving a speech, together, live on TV. It's a rare sight to see. Obama also informed us of a recently-launched fund website where you can help out the suffering Haitians.
Peace out...

It's a horrible disaster and I hope people will somehow survive. I also can't really watch it, it's sometimes too much to bear.
I've been watching videos about the Haiti quake and my heart broke every time I see those people crying desperately for help.
Mauritius will be organizing a telethon at the end of the month to benefit victims in Haiti. A lot of countries are sending money and food to help the survivors but unfortunately no matter how much cash is being given, there will never be enough to bring back all those people who lost their lives in such a tragic way. Survivors in Haiti have to focus on the future but the scars will forever remain =(
My heart goes out to you and I can relate to your fear! I was seven years old and lived in San Francisco during the last large quake there in 1989. I remember that day vividly and many days after it as well. I have to say that even is one of the few that left a permanent, lasting impression. I will never forget seeing the devastation, and to be perfectly honest, the cries of some, affected me so deeply, I remember exactly how they sound.
Thankfully I and all of my loved ones were okay, and our house was far enough from the epicenter that it was not damaged.
But the horror that I saw on a daily as you do, on the news, and even some that I saw firsthand in the days afterward... its indescribable.
As a child you think that your parents can protect you, but I remember asking my mother almost rhetorically, "This wont happen again, right?" Her honest answer that it could happen again, and that there was no way to prevent or predict it, was beyond troubling to me and frightening.
We moved to Las Vegas in 1991. I remember asking my mother, "Do they have earthquakes there?"
----My heart goes out to you, and I again relate to your fears so much. Earthquakes are so frightening and devastating. And also my heart goes out to everyone in Haiti and those affected by this earthquake. From all I hear on the news, it is so much like the earthquake I experienced... It seems almost unfair that there is no warning... My only hope now is that there is enough people helping, that no one in need is without and suffering.
I must admit this has shaken me too...but i cant bear to watch it on telly! its too much for me..I just read abt it on the press. My geography sucks a bit and I didnt realise how close to that you were! May god Keep you safe my little darling.
@MKL: Yea I'm hoping too...makes me sick to see them suffering...:(
@Angele: Our cell provider has organised a text message relief fund. And I'm sure the govt is doing more which I'm unaware of...Go Mauritius...help 'em!
@Lauren: That's terrible to hear hun. I can imagine how hard it must have been. That's a memory which will certainly not go away. You were brave though. *hugs*
@Azra: Same to you hun...:)
It's really heartbreaking to see those images in the news. I don't watch them anymore. Be safe and take all your precautions. I'm usually of the cautious type and I think the safety bag would be a good idea.
Aww... just be careful. It's hard doing your routines while worrying about this. This is so heart-breaking
is it me or is it like every 4-5 years there is a calamity :(
the twin towers..4-5 years later..tsunami in indonesia & 4-5 years later..this :(
is earth destroying us? :(
i can't watch the images on tv ..its so shocking..
Earth is not destroying us...I would say it's the opposite...no? We made - still making - our bed and now we gotta lie in it...ain't it?
it's so horrible... and there's so little we can do about it... other than donate, there really nothing I can do, and that makes it even more awful!

I tried to comment here on Saturday, but the comment box would not appear on my computer!
I am praying that your home will never be affected by a natural disaster.
