Now I can tell you what I've been up to while my internet connection went kaput.
Actually it wasn't all that bad. I've discovered quite a few things and learned about one or two hobbies I can take up seriously if ever I find myself in a disconnected situation.
The next best thing beside Internet, for me, is television. I've had my eyes glued to the TV, watching Burn Notice (hubby is totally gung-ho over Fi), NCIS (I love all of them; Especially Ziva and Tony), SVU (favorites are Olivia and Elliot), and the HGTV Channel (All of the shows?). I love the latter because anything related to home designs and make-overs interests me! Not to mention the numerous tips/ideas you pick up from the experts in those programmes. And then a few movies on HBO and Showtime.
After a while, my eyes started to itch. I sadly took a break from the telly. Then turned my restless attention to books. The books I've brought with me to SVG have been read already - I simply can't read a book or watch a movie twice unless and until a couple of years have gone by.
My mother-in-law is a reader too so I went to rummage through her thin collection - because father-in-law kinda binned most of them as he thinks it's too much clutter - and came out victorious (some titles kinda scared me and I was desperate) with at least three; Bad Circuits and The Last One In - both by Engle & Barnes from the Strange Matter Series (very high-schoolish (?) but temporarily entertaining; it took me less than 3 hours to finish the two of them), and June Strong's Song of Eve (still to finish).
Because by the time I started Song of Eve I came across some HP games on my laptop. I eventually ran out of sessions. Then I moved on to Text Twist and Trivia Machine. Word games are my favorites!
In between, I've also watched a couple of movies I downloaded a while ago.
The lessons I've learned during this unexpected hiatus?
- Download more movies and store them somewhere.
- Buy more books.
- Download free games.
- Check my laptop for any addictive games which offer unlimited sessions.
And last but not least, life is pretty much boring without internet!
Someone needs to come up with an alternative invention for when your router is all fucked up. Like beaming an internet connection via satellite throughout the entire island!
What do you do when you have no internet connection?

Well, when I had no connection, I hopped in my car to the nearest town (10min away, I live in the country side) and I looked for unsecured WLAN, haha. It was a hot August and I sat in the car somewhere near a house and checked latest tweets and emails.. Boy was I bored without internet. I thought if only I had 30min... I admit it. I'm addicted to internet. I don't play FB games, but I do like to check blogs and Twitter and some news websites. Most of my friends are from all over the globe, so internet really makes me feel connected.
I don't read so many books, but I have 1 terabyte of movies and series. I love to watch Seinfeld, Friends or King of Queens :)
Oh my! Your story about sitting in the car to get connection is so funny. Something similar happened to me. Maybe I'll blog about it!! For my next post!! Hahaha...I'm still laughing at yours...I can picture you sitting down with the laptop and reading blogs and tweets!! :)
I downloaded NCIS and CSI so I watched those. And today How I Met Your Mother finished downloading. LOL. It was season 1 so now Imma get season 2!! Hehehe...Plus I'd get more...
Well, I couldn't help it, haha. Unfortunately, my battery lasted for only 1h or so... I even opened up many tabs with articles and then read at home, hehe. I'd love to hear your similar story :)
It's during my holidays that I realise that there is a life without the internet. I spend more time offline now, in the real world :P
When I'm not on the computer I have much more time to play my piano, and be outside where I feel very free.
Secretia
@Bruno yes I realized it too...I'll try to spend more time offline too...
@Secretia I would love to learn how to play piano! I so envy you...
I know right? Life without internet is very hard. Just imagine how people in the 80's dealt without it...
I wish we had HGTV here. We've got Tele Maison (Ex Du cote de chez vous) and it's not bad. I'm totally into those kind of shows too.
I know how it feels to be internet-less. I went through that last year in October and I still shudder at the thought. Eew. Lucky there's TV!
My connection gets screwed up all the time so I have already downloaded all the porn I'll ever need to my hard drive so I can watch until the connection returns. I've heard the internet has other uses than porn, I just haven't gotten to them yet.
I want a kindle sooo bad. I'm housebound all of the time and read a lot.
I should just bite the bullet and buy one, but they're sooo expensive.
@Paul right...:) But then again you don't miss what you don't have huh...
@Morinn HGTV is the best! :)
@Stylez LMAO Go to empflix!!
@Erin I want a kindle too! Hubby's cousin bought 2! One for him and one for his 80-something-year-old mother! Pffttt...waste...I could use one...
I lovee reading and I think you should buy more books too! =P I spend soo much money on books because nothing satisfies me more than a growing bookshelf. It's so pretty!
That's what I do! I download tons of movies to watch when there is no internet connection. Hmm, burn notice, uh? I've seen a few episodes but I'm not hooked on this particular tv show. But I enjoy NCIS :D How about the spin off, NCIS LA? Watch this one as well? Chris O'donell is kind of a hottie!
I did watch NCIS:LA but just because of LL Cool J...not a big fan of it otherwise...:)
